David Yanez an Ecuadorian-born artist lives and works in New York City. He received a BFA from The School of Visual Arts in 1983 and has been working as a painting conservator for the past twenty years.
Influenced by both Western and Latin American art in college, it would be the work of Frida Kahlo seen at the Grey art Gallery in 1983 as well as the works of David Wojnarowicz, Andrew Castrucci and the artists of the East Village in the 1980’s that would leave the most lasting impressions on the artist. With close ties to the underground artist run collaborative called Bullet Space in the East Village he contributed his time and labor to many projects and exhibitions including the production of the “Your House Is Mine” project that featured 30 original silk screens by key east village artists, and culminating in a two person exhibition with the well known graffiti artist “Lady Pink” in 1997.
